7 Morning Rituals That Will Change Everything

coral golding

I’ve always believed that how you start your day has a ripple effect on everything that follows. Over the years, as a business owner, homeschooling mum, and someone who’s deeply curious about the body, I’ve come to realise that the most powerful changes are often the quietest ones.

My mornings aren’t complicated, but they’re intentional. They’re about setting the tone. The nervous system first, energy second, and everything else flows from there.

Here are a few of my favourite ways to start the day right. None of them are about perfection. They’re about small, grounded choices that gently support your body, mind and space.

1. Barefoot Grounding Before Anything Else

My day often begins barefoot on the grass. Just a few quiet minutes to connect with the earth and shake off any residual static from sleep or dreams of the to-do list. It’s simple, free, and has a profound effect on the nervous system, especially if you’ve been surrounded by screens or EMFs. If you’re city-based or indoors, grounding mats are a great swap. We use them on every bed in the house and I swear by them for restorative sleep and cortisol balance.

2. Tongue Scraping & Oil Pulling

Before coffee, it’s tongue scraping. Our mouths do so much detox work overnight, and scraping first thing is a gentle, effective way to support that. I often follow it with oil pulling. I use organic coconut or sesame oil, swishing it around while I get the girls’ breakfasts ready or prep for the day. It’s a tiny ritual that’s anti-inflammatory, supports oral health, and feels like a reset.

3. Olive Oil, Lemon & Cayenne Shot

This is one of my favourite morning potions. Just a shot glass of good olive oil, juice from half a lemon, and a pinch of cayenne. It’s warming, energising, and supports digestion, liver flow and circulation. Not always delicious, but worth it. If you’ve had a sluggish start or feel puffy or foggy, it’s an instant lift.

4. PEMF and Journaling

Most mornings I sit with my PEMF mat for 10 to 20 minutes, sometimes while journaling, sometimes just in silence. I first used it intuitively, but after speaking with the founder of Celler8 on the RAISE podcast, I properly understood the science behind it. Cellular repair, reduced inflammation, improved blood flow. It’s now one of my top nervous system tools.

5. Lymphatic Movement

We underestimate how powerful circulation is for energy and clarity. I dry brush most mornings, always towards the heart, followed by a short burst of movement. Rebounding, legs-up-the-wall, or even a few gentle squats while the shower heats up. This is especially important if you’re coming off a sluggish sleep, recovering from travel, or moving through a heavier hormonal phase.

6. Cold Showers or Cold Finish

I know it’s not everyone’s favourite, but even a 30-second cold blast at the end of a warm shower can change your energy completely. It brings you into your body, calms inflammation, and leaves you clear and alert.

7. Finally, my supplement!

On rotation at the moment is the collagen from Ingenious, it’s one of the only brands with clinical trials to support their claims, and it works! I also reach for my Happy Mammoth Magnesium every morning, cannot do without this.

None of these things are rigid rules. They’re simply the rhythms that work for our family, woven into the chaos of homeschool life and running a business. Some days I hit all of them. Some days I don’t. But when I do, I feel grounded, clear, and better able to show up for the day ahead.

Here’s to slow mornings, barefoot rituals, and building a life that supports your biology.
