How to spend the May bank holiday
A bank holiday well spent brings a week of content, and in May, luckily for us, we get two.

1. Brighton Fringe Festival
Lose yourself in almost 1000 shows and performances as eclectic and diverse as you’d expect from England’s biggest arts festival. Watch cabarets, take in comedy shows or enjoy live music – and when you need a break from all the culture, pull up a pew at one of the fest’s myriad food stalls and bars.

2. L’enclume, Cartmel
Wooden beams and whitewashed walls welcome you at L’enclume, a hidden gem of a restaurant in an old ironmongers in the tiny village of Cartmel, Cumbria. Food on the menu is unpretentious and utterly delicious, with much of it coming from the restaurant’s own farm. Well worth the car journey.
