Part 1

Sharmadean Reid MBE: Unleash Your Confidence

Our inaugural Woman Who Can, WAH nails founder Sharmadean Reid talks to The Step Up Club about bravery, success and what confidence means in today’s world.

The founder of WAH nails, which opened its doors in East London in 2009, Sharmadean Reid isn’t just a creative visionary, she’s also a businesswoman of the savviest degree, an advocate of social change and supporter of all types of working women. Imbued with youth, feminism, technology, colour, fun and an unshackled independence, WAH has given modern beauty back to the women who use it.

Last year, Sharmadean also launched FutureGirlCorp, a pioneering female business training camp for today’s entrepreneurs. Its tagline: Inspiring The Next Generation of Future Female CEOs. For Sharmadean Reid, success extends beyond herself to harnessing female power worldwide and that is a hugely progressive standpoint.

Every now and then just pause, replenish and remind yourself why you’re on the journey you are.

Sharmadean’s Five Confidence-Boosting Tricks

Make a mental list of all of your achievements.

It’s always good to revisit these and remind yourself of all you’ve accomplished. It’s easy to get bogged down in the present moment and forget everything that’s led you there.

Book a facial.

Beauty treatments are like a magic wand. When your hair, make up, nails and lashes are done, you feel like you can do anything.

Do your homework.

One of the reasons women often don’t feel confident is because we don’t have the right knowledge. Learn all you can about your subject so you can walk into any situation thinking, 'I know this, I completely understand it and I know why I am here', so research, research, research.

Call a friend.

Tell them everything that’s stressing you out if you need a confidence reset. I can’t emphasise enough the importance of friends for picking you back up and reminding you what makes you so special.

Take a moment for yourself.

Every now and then just pause, replenish and remind yourself why you’re on the journey you are.
